You can reach Koh Hong on a day trip from Krabi, Phuket, or Railay beach. It takes less than an hour by speedboat from Krabi area, while a bit longer from Phuket. If you decide to visit Koh Hong on your own, it is essential to bring water and food, because you cannot get restaurants here.
