Koh Mae Ko, with its craggy, wild beaches, exceptional snorkeling, swimming, and an inland gem known as Emerald Lake, is a real island paradise of Ang Thong National Marine Park. An impressive formation of rocks that rise above the archipelago gives Koh Mae Ko a unique look. A hike to the top will reveal the most spectacular view over the Emerald Lake that lies below, linked to the sea through the many underwater caves. Koh Mae Ko is indeed one of the most scenic highlights of Ang Thong National Marine Park.
Koh Mae Ko features two main viewpoints that can be combined in the same hike. The first is relatively easy to explore on a typical day trip to Koh Mae Ko island, where visitors can reach a peak in five minutes. The condition of the stairs is pretty decent, making the climb a comfortable one. The second viewpoint on Koh Mae Ko involves a more challenging climb as compared to the first one and takes around 45 minutes to reach. Nevertheless, once at the top, the panorama is more impressive overlooking many islands within the archipelago.
When going on a boat tour to Ang Thong National Marine Park from Koh Samui or Koh Phangan, travelers are always advised to stop at Koh Mae Ko. Islander private boat tours and yacht charters will always include sightseeing on Koh Mae Ko, which is also a popular place for kayaking.
