Arborek is a tiny island in Raja Ampat that is easily navigable on foot. It takes roughly thirty minutes to walk the entire coastline of Arborek. The island is known for its very hospitable ‘Tourism Village’ and exceptional handicrafts. Arborek Island is a perfect paradise to gain a sense of the Asai culture, which is still kept alive in this isolated place. You can reach Arborek from nearby Mansuar island or Kri island, or disembark here for half a day during your Raja Ampat yacht holiday.
Expect to be warmly greeted by many children who are always willing to pose for photographs. Locals are hospitable and industrious, and the women of the Arborek village have fostered a thriving souvenir community. Traditional handcraft and dance classes are also available. There are many small restaurants and shops, and Arborek is one of the few islands in Raja Ampat in which you can buy beer! Despite its size, Arborek is a popular destination due to its fresh groundwater and nearly 24-hour electricity.
Extraordinary snorkeling is possible from anywhere on the island. You can encounter huge schools of fish that take shelter beneath the famous Arborek jetty. The large schools of fish spin like a tornado, especially between 3 PM and 6 PM, when there is a fish feeding frenzy! Look out for giant clams sheltering beneath Arborek Jetty, and soft corals that camouflage their piles in colorful swathes. The unusually vibrant reefs are also found on the eastern end of the island. Overall, Arborek island paradise is fascinating both above and under sea-level. Alongside nearby Manta Sandy, it is a must-visit during your exploration of Raja Ampat.
