North of Gili Gede lies tiny Gili Rengit. Forest covers most of the interior. You won’t find much more than cattle wandering around – not even horses and carts are allowed on this secluded haven. As one of the least known South Gilis, Gili Rengit is also one of the least disturbed; tall trees, white sand, bird song, and mesmerizing sunrises are the order of the day. Extensive gardens of hard and soft corals lay just beneath the surface, and the reef extends along most of Gili Rengit’s coast. Bright blue starfish, yellow and black Moorish idols, and weirdly shaped squid drift and dart across this underwater paradise. Nowadays, Gili Rengit island is entirely uninhabited and attracts only a few tourists. You can explore a few abandoned buildings slowly getting overgrown by nature that feature a traditional Balinese temple.
