Inhabited once by Leonardo Di Caprio, Maya Bay is a fabulous, white sand beach, sheltered by 100-meter high cliffs on three sides. It is one of the world-famous beaches of the Koh Phi Phi islands on the southeast coast of Thailand, in the Andaman Sea. Maya Bay became remarkably famous in 2000 after the movie starring Leonardo Di Caprio called “The Beach” used the bay as the primary movie setting. Maya Bay beach is a natural reserve because of the abundant vegetation that surrounds the place.
Unfortunately, today the beach can only be witnessed from a boat, as the Maya Bay is closed to rejuvenate the condition of its coral reefs and marine habitat. Still, it makes an everlasting impression when you approach it by boat. There is a smaller beach nearby that now serves the primary viewpoint of Maya Bay. The best time to visit Maya Bay is between November and April. The weather is excellent, while the waters are calm and completely crystalline, so the blue color is more vivid. If you are looking for a place to stay to be able to witness the beauty of Maya Bay early in the morning, you should stay in Koh Phi Phi Don island nearby.
